Karlton Harris is the founder and president of Re-entry Consultants of America, LLC (RECOA) and Karlton Harris Ministries (KHM). With nearly 18 years in ministry both inside and outside the prison system, Karlton is committed to bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ to all who are incarcerated; primarily focusing on the renewing of the mind. A former prisoner himself, Karlton Harris obtained his Associates degree while incarcerated. Upon his release from prison in 2000, he enrolled at Olivet Nazarene University where he graduated in 2002. Karlton is the author of the award winning book “I’m Free! Now What?” which is a nationally implemented resource for reducing recidivism.
Karlton is a much sought-after conference speaker and holistic re-entry specialist. Focusing on Prevention, Intervention, and Re-entry with an emphasis on Faith, Freedom, and Fatherhood, Karlton’s expertise is with designing and implementing re-entry and prison ministry programs. Karlton was a guest speaker at the 2016 Big Brothers Big Sisters National Conference and also the moderator of one of the workshops. He was the keynote speaker for Gulf Coast Community Services Association event during summer 2016. Karlton was a workshop facilitator for The Travis County Sheriff’s Office Vision Summit: Looking Toward the Future of Re-entry conference in Austin, Texas. Karlton was a 2013 conference workshop speaker at the Family Prisoner Conference in Houston, Texas. In 2012, Karlton served as the re-entry director for the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. In 2011, he was showcased by the Atlanta’s Post as one of eight ex-offenders with an inspiring transformation. In 2010, he was the Keynote Speaker for Good News Jail and Prison Ministry in Virginia and a 2010 workshop presenter for the Prison Fellowship’s Atlanta Out4Life Conference. In 2009, Karlton filmed his documentary entitled “Against All Odds”. Karlton is a columnist for “Adopt a Soul” in the Christian Outlook Magazine. He currently works full-time assisting several ministries, counties, and states develop pre and post release evidence based re-entry programs.
He is a Youth Pastor, and volunteers 4 hours a week at the Federal Detention Center in Houston, Texas. Karlton teaches incarcerated fathers how to make their ceiling, their children’s floor. His fatherhood advice is valued to the extent that Oprah Winfrey invited him as a guest on her “Fatherless Sons LifeClass” which aired July 7, 2013. After his appearance, Karlton continued to desire to help fathers everywhere. This desire manifested into his fatherhood reality show, “6SONS” as well as his newest book “Fathers Make Your Ceiling Your Children’s Floor”.
Karlton’s testimony has appeared in the Believer’s Voice of Victory Magazine. He has also been featured on The Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) with Pro-Claim Ministry. He was interviewed by Pastor Dan Willis, the host of “I’m Just Saying” on DirecTV’s Totally Christian Television (TCT) network. Karlton Harris and his wife, Karla, have six sons, and they reside in Houston, Texas.
